podiatrist deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists
diagnose and treat skin and nail disorders, corns, calluses, warts and ingrown toenails. Podiatrists play an important role in maintaining the mobility of
all age groups from the very fragile to top flight athletes. Ongoing monitoring of foot health in those with circulation problems and diabetes is an integral part of a chronic care plan.
A referral is not required to see a podiatrist. Programs for Veterans Affairs, Workers Compensation and Aids for Disabled People do however require a medical referral
Private health insurance covers podiatry, depending on the level of patient cover.
