GP Referrals
Medicare can provide rebates for podiatry services through the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program, now known as the GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) program, but only if you have a chronic medical condition (like diabetes or arthritis) and a referral from your GP.
Without this GP referral for a chronic condition, Medicare does not cover podiatry visits.
How to access Medicare for treatment
- See your GP:
Discuss your foot condition with your GP to see if you meet the criteria for a chronic medical condition. - Get a referral:
Your GP can then provide a referral for podiatry services under the GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) - Receive up to 5 visits:
This referral can entitle you to up to five rebated podiatry visits per calendar year.
